Restaurants that stand out with their unique flavors, traditional dishes, and hospitable people.

An entire universe is what you'll find in the Peloponnese, encompassing mountains, beaches, and urban landscapes. Fertile regions feed the kitchens, and the result is uniquely flavorful and diverse. Hospitable, open people, ready to give you their own stamp to experience a journey turned into an experience. We go from one end to the other and select six food stops that have been firmly imprinted in our minds.

Osteria Greca, Lalioti Corinthia

It has an amazing cellar, is located inside the winery of Ktima Papagyrgiou, and has been open for a few months. Osteria Greca is a restaurant inside the winery in the Lalioti area of Corinthia. The food, as its name suggests, has significant Italian references with Greek foundations. It embodies cucina povera and is based primarily on locality and seasonality.

It's a comfort cuisine that balances between traditional village cooking and contemporary. Beyond the winery's wines, you can find labels from other estates in our country or internationally. From the menu, we highlight the cauliflower risotto and the duck ragu with mafaldine, pasta the length of macaroni with wavy edges. For dessert, the airy pavlova with mandarin is the ideal finish, accompanied by a dessert wine.

Taverna Klimataria, Agiannakis Messinia

It serves authentic Greek food, delicious first courses, and excellent grilled meats in Agiannakis Messinia, a breath away from the popular beach. We tried the airy zucchini fritters with feta and the local cheese, talagani, grilled and served with lemon. Pichiarika beans, more widely known as runner beans in salad, and beets with garlic are two more dishes I'll remember for a long time. The village salad is served with plenty of extra virgin olive oil from their own production and feta from Sidirokastro Messinia. If you find yourself in its beautiful green garden, try Mina's handmade fried cheese pies with pastry phyllo, as well as the iconic grilled burger and beef.

Ta 17 Choria, Nemea

It owes its name to the 17 villages that comprise the PDO Nemea viticultural zone and is located in the center of Nemea. A simple yet hospitable and quality restaurant. The cuisine emphasizes utilizing local products and their ideal pairing with wines. The fluffy meatballs with fresh tomato sauce and the Asprokampos salad that ideally combines the local cheese flampouritsa with wild greens and sausage from local producers are two dishes I'd suggest you seek out. Risotto with porcini mushrooms, tagliata, osso buco, and many more delicious dishes.

Depending on the period, there may be variations, but it's certain that this restaurant serves delicious food. Generally, it's a menu with selected and well-structured choices that gives wine space to play its role. The wine list of Ta 17 Choria is a true "wine bible" of the region and all of the Peloponnese. Barrel-aged, velvety Nemeas, crisp, fresh with their own charm, dessert wines from Agiorgitiko, as well as excellent Malagousia, Moschofilero, and the constant surprise of Kydonitsa. A real wine journey through the Peloponnese vineyards.

To Konaki tou Markou, Markos

Located in western Mainalon in Arcadia, in a beautiful small village, Markos. There, Giannis and Vangelio utilize local products and create very delicious recipes while also serving their own feta and tsipouro. Here you'll try rooster with hilopites with burnt butter and dry mizithra, lamb in parchment, wild boar with cognac in the pot, and many more flavors.

Taverna Eleni, Finikounta

One of the most well-known tavernas in the region, located on a small hill next to the sea with a beautiful view of the small harbor of Finikounta. It serves delicious meats, while the menu includes fish and seafood. The cooked dishes, however, are what made Taverna Eleni famous, with the late owner giving her own tone to simple everyday recipes.

Quality raw materials, excellent extra virgin olive oil, and above all love for food were what transformed it into a reference point for food throughout the region. Their delicious cheeses like touloumotiri and talagani, the famous oil-based dishes, as well as carefully prepared grilled dishes and fish, transform dining at Eleni into an ideal gastronomic experience. The day I visited the restaurant, they had red-sauced free-range kid goat.

Panagopoulou Taverna, Nymfasia

A settlement in the shadow of Vytina, Nymfasia has all the characteristics of a traditional mountain settlement. There, in its center, is Panagopoulou taverna, which serves dishes focused on locality and traditional gastronomy. Already counting three generations, operating continuously and continuing to give life to the whole village. We highlight the tyropitari, a delicious and airy fried cheese pie, the rooster with traditional square-cut hilopites, and various soups depending on the day. We also try delicious grilled meats, flavorful fluffy burgers, and combined with the freshest salads, they create an ideal meal.

Common Questions

How do I get here from Athens?

Most destinations covered on this site are 2 to 4 hours from Athens by car. I always recommend renting a car rather than joining a bus tour — you control your stops, you can pull over when something looks interesting, and the drive itself is often half the experience in Greece.

What is the best time to visit?

April to June is my personal preference — the wildflowers are out, the crowds haven't arrived, and the light is extraordinary. September and October are equally good. Summer is beautiful but you'll share it with everyone else. Winter is underrated and deeply local.
